Tear Trough

under eye bag

  • Tear Trough
  • Tear trough is the groove that sits in between the lower eye lid and the cheek. This hollowness starts to form when there is a loss of volume in this area which is usually as a result of weight loss or with age.
  • Dermal filler, created specifically for the under eye area, will fill in the hollowness and soften the appearance of the tear trough, thus creating a brighter look.
  • With every treatment we start with a consultation to understand what you want to achieve. The treatment, excluding consultation, takes approximately 10 minutes.
  • No pain (a small pinch) and the results are instant. From our experience results tend to last 12 – 18 months, however it varies from person to person as it comes down to metabolismThe purpose of a tear trough treatment is to reduce the hollowness of a tear trough, as the depth can make the under eye form lines and appear darker. With this non-surgical method, dermal fillers are injected into the area, adding volume beneath the under eyelids, making the skin look fuller and tighter, and with the skin a bit more stretched out, fine lines under the eyelids will be minimised, resulting in facial rejuvenation. Before the treatment begins, the patient’s tear trough areawill be assessed by checking the texture and thickness of the skin above the cheek, in order to determine the suitability and what type of dermal filler is best to use to achieve the desired look. Once the patient gets the green card, the under eye area gets disinfected to prevent any infections, then numbing cream is applied on both the opening sides, numbing the area to minimize pain and risk of bruising. Next, a cannula is prepared with premium dermal filler, which gets injected slowly and gradually, with only one opening on each side of the under eyelid, reaching all the areas beneath the skin. By opening only one entry point on each side will reduce the risk of bruising, swelling and vascular complications. We recommend not drinking any alcoholic drinks a couple days before the treatment, to avoid major bruising and swelling.

One of the major benefits of the non-surgical tear trough treatment is that unlike surgical treatments, the patient is awake and can be involved throughout the treatment, seeing and feeling the change unfold. After both the tear trough areas get filled and massaged well, to even out the filler and diffuse the dark circles and soften the hollowness, patients will be able to see instant results. The area under your eyelids will be revitalised and restored, with no downtime or major swelling or bruising, allowing you to get back to living your life with minimal disruption. The treatment takes no longer than 10 minutes and most patients feel none to minimal pain. Indeed, post treatment advice will be provided before and after the treatment, which typically includes:

    ▪ No exercise or extreme activities, including lifting heavy items for 24 to 48 hours
    ▪ Avoid sleeping face down
    ▪ Avoid showers and washing of the face with hot water. Warm water is ok to use▪ No makeup or harsh items on the area for 24 hours
    ▪ Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
    ▪ Ice pack can be applied to the area to prevent any swelling

At Dermamina London, we make sure all our patients are aware of the risks and complications included in the tear trough treatment and we emphasise how important it is to follow post treatment advice and when to refer back, especially if severe complications occur. We provide follow up services for patients that want to have the area checked up. A great benefit of using dermal fillers is that it can be easily dissolved with hyaluronidase (an enzyme that naturally exists in our bodies) for those that want to reverse the treatment or want to reduce it slightly for a more subtle look.
