How do Lip Fillers work?
We believe in only using the best products and our Juvéderm® filler is made from the naturally good, Hyaluronic Acid, rather than from silicone or collagen, which can be problematic. Hyaluronic Acid is always present in our bodies and is what keeps the skin looking youthful, plump and full of volume. By binding it together with water to create a gel-like substance, which when injected into the lip area, becomes a lips plumper, gentle enough to give the lips a beautiful shape and fullness. As our Hyaluronic Acid Fillers are a naturally occurring protein, it makes it a very safe and effective way for shaping delicate lips rather than resorting to extreme, permeant measures like plastic surgery.
The filler gets to work immediately when injected into the lip, gently shaping and plumping the lips visibly from the first session. During the cosmetic procedure, small amounts of Juvéderm will be applied either into the body of the lips or around the silhouette of them, depending on your desired look. As the Hyaluronic Acid Fillers are biodegradable and a natural protein, their effect is temporary. It will usually last six to nine months before your body begins to break down the filler.
Prior to treatment, your practitioner will carefully examine your lip area and discuss your expectations and desired result. The treatment itself begins with the lip area being thoroughly cleaned and numbed using an anesthetic cream. Then your practitioner will begin administrating the injection. With a mastered technique of massaging and applying, they will create a smooth and natural-looking result.
How many Lip Filler treatments will I need?
We only use semi-permanent Lip Fillers which naturally compliment your skin. They usually break down between 6 – 12 months after the treatment, yet this can vary depending on the individual. By only using temporary fillers, it allows us to adapt the future treatment of your lips to coincide with your face’s normal ageing changes and give you the most natural-looking results possible.
To achieve the desired results, sometimes more than one treatment is needed, with results lasting up to 12 months.
What results can I expect from Lip Filler Injections?
The Lip Fillers work immediately, which is why they’re so amazing. After the treatment, you will already see visible results, with the full effect taking 7 – 14 days to develop completely. You can expect your lips to be a little swollen for a couple of days after the treatment but this is perfectly normal and should subside soon after that time. You can also expect your treatment to typically last up to 6 – 12 months, although this does vary .
What should I do before and after getting Lip Fillers?
Beforehand, please do not drink any alcohol during the 24 hours before your treatment. We also advise that you avoid using aspirin or other non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs two days before your treatment (unless they are taken for a chronic medical condition). Avoiding these medications will reduce your risk of bruising at the point of injection. If you have any further concerns, ask your medical practitioner for more information.
If you suffer from cold sores, we may advise a course of Aciclovir before we carry out the treatment.
After your treatment, we recommend that you do not consume alcohol for 24 hours as this reduces the risk of swelling and bruising. We also advise that you use mineral make-up to reduce the risk of infection and avoid hot drinks for a few hours after treatment. Keeping your lips hydrated is also important .
